During the week, I have been reading a great book called Accidentally Friends. This book has gotten me thinking about friends.

In this book, there is a girl named Amy Flowers. She is invited with her family to come to their Uncle Steve’s wedding. At Uncle Steve’s wedding, Uncle Steve introduces Amy to a beautiful young girl named Jenelle. At the party, as Jenelle walks down the stairs, her heel gets caught on her dress. The shoe is fine but the bottom of the dress is teared. Jenelle thinks that it is the end of the world but Amy quickly takes out her stapler from her bag and staples her dress. At first Jenelle isn’t sure how it would look but the silver of the staple matches with the sequins on her dress. When the dress is fixed, Jenelle and Amy find out that they are both going to the same school, Arlington. This was Amy’s first year at Arlington and she is so excited. Arlington is the best school in the state of Texas. It is a very expensive private school and Amy is on the school by a scholarship. Amy couldn’t wait! Right before the day Amy starts school, she gets a package from Jenelle. The box says Bounce, the name of Jenelle’s mom’s clothing store. When she opens the box, she finds a very silky materialed matching top and pants. Very stylish. It also had a note from Jenelle saying, “I hope this helps you with your wonderful first day of school”. Amy believes that means to wear the outfit to school on the first day. She hops onto the bus and gets ready for her first day at Arlington. Then, a lady comes up to her and asks, “Sparkling water or Orange Juice?” Amy is so surprised. They give you drinks on the bus? She also found little mini TVs install into the chairs. Time passes and Amy meets up with Jenelle. She finds her with two people around her. Their names are Fiona, (The most popular girl at Arlington School) and Lucia,( Fiona’s best-est friend.) Fiona turns out to be very mean. She likes to pull pranks on Amy. The first prank is when Fiona gives Amy a coke bottle for her to give to Mrs. Annington, her math teacher. She hands it to the teacher and when she opens the cap, the soda explodes everywhere! Amy just thinks that it got shook in Fiona’s purse but Jenelle tells Amy the truth that they shook the bottle. She tells Amy that the only reason Fiona was doing this was because she pulled pranks on people when they were almost her friend. The next prank she pulls is when Fiona calls Amy and tells her that there is extra credit Homework for science when their really wasn’t. The extra credit homework was to dress up as a famous scientist. Amy sprayed her hair green and more green tights and a yellow top. Amy is stared by many people and is mad at Fiona.

This is how far I got into the book.

I can connect to this book. It is aa self to text connection. Sometimes I can really be mad at a friend for lying just like how Fiona did to Amy. I get very mad just like Amy.

This helps me understand the book better becuase I can remember those times when Amy gets mad at Fiona so i know how Amy feels. I think that this is a connection that really helps me understand the book.

In this blog I will be telling you about the book: Look who got out on the wrong side of the swamp.

In this book, 3 kids are going to try and survive a hurricane by hiding out in there brick school. The school is right next to a toxic waste building witch gets destroyed by the hurricane. the waste gets mixed in with the local swamp water and makes a mutant frog that eats a teacher and will try to eat all the students. the 3 kids happen to be in class one day when there teacher “vanished”. then the mega mutant frog walked into the room dressed like a teacher. The kids whisper to each other but no one says anything. The frog thing says in human language "today we will go on a field rip to the field 15 miles from here." the mega frog took them there because he wanted them alone fare away from every one so h could eat them. the kids all get out and so did the mega frog. the kids saw him turn back fully into a frog and he cased them across the road when all of a sudden a bus hits him and the frog mutant dies.

I have a connection to this book in a scary way. One time when I was on a trip at Florida my brother ran across the road an almost got hit by a speeding car. my mom and dad were so happy that he was alive but for some reason mad at me even though the whole time, I was on a bench drinking a smoothie oblivious to the whole situation. I was five and a half at that time.

In this blog  I will be typing about the strange book, the SEEMS.

First of all, I have not finished the book so I don’t know anything about how it turnsout or how it ends.The SEEMS is a book that is supposed to be giving you the message that the world is not really what you think it is. for example, the rain,snow,hail,sleet or any other type of weather is made by the department of weather. You know when you are about to fall asleep but you just can,t fall asleep, well in the department of sleep, there must have been glitch or tear.

I do have a pretty good connection with this book. Before  I learned all about the water cycle and things like that I have always wondered what really was going on. For example what if when you were about to fall asleep, some workman was just turning off a switch and you shut down for 8 hours.

I am reading a  book called the Sweetheart Deal. It is a book in the candyapple series and it is one of my favorites.

The book is about a girl in 7th grade, named Skyler, who is in the fashion club at her school.  When the fashion club leader, Ashley Carr, moves onto the next school and cant run fashion club anymore, she holds auditions to find the fashion club leader. Skyler holds the show until Madison, a girl who thinks she is all that, has a wonderful audition that is tied with Skylers. Ashley announces that she will pick the leader after she thinks it through.

Later in the book, before a fashion club meeting, Ashley Carr askes Skyler and Madison to go and ask the mathletes teacher if they can use his room for the meeting. They go into the room but it is already occupied by the mathletes. Madison bet Skyler that she couldn’t turn anyone of these people into a fashion star, but Skyler thought oherwise. Together they made a deal that Skyler could turn one of the boys into someone that Ashley Carr would ask to dance with at the big Sweetheart dance. The winner would drop out of the fashion club contest. That is all I have read so far.

I can connect to this book in many ways. One way is that I have auditioned for things before and I had done very well, but someone else did really well too, just like Skyler.

This helps me understand the book better because I know how dissapointed you feel when you think you have the best preformance but someone else ties with you.

Black hawk down is a book based on a real event that happened in 1993. The main characters are ssgt Eversmen, pfc Grimes, “Hoot”(callsign),  ltcol Danny Mcknight, Delta force operator Sanderson, and cw3 Durrant. Their mission was in Somalia, Africa in the Bakara Market and they where supposed to captureMahomad Ferra Adids political advisers. The delta guys would storm the building and the rangers would create a perimeter. Blackhawk hellicopters and Little Birds would provide air cover and Mcknights humvee column would escort the prisoners back to base. Just when every thing was almost done 2 Blackhawks got shot down. Now the soulders have to rescue the injured pilots and they are surounded by thousands of Sommalii malitia. An event that was supposed to take 30 minutes ended up taking 18-22 hours.

I am going to watch the movie this weekend so I can make a connection.

This week I read Frindle by Andrew Clements. Frindle is about a kid named Nick. Nick invents a word that means pen. You guessed it, its Frindle. But if you asked Nicks vocab teacher if its not in the dictoinary it dosnt count. Mrs. Granger is now at war with Nick.

I can make a movie to text conection to this book. In the begininng of the movie Black Hawk Down 2 helicopter pilots are having a debate about the word limo. I can understand how Nick feels. I cant wait to see who will win the WORD WARS

Making Waves     Book writen by Randi Reisfeld and H.B Gilmour            Summary writen by Nicole

The book that i read was called Making Waves. It’s the summer time and best friend trio Emily, Jenna , and L.J are spending time at there local country club almost everyday. They build sand castles on the beach, bike or walk on the b trials, sit and eat at the shady snack area, lay on the beach chairs near the pool, and swim in the pool. What ever the trio decides to do they do it together. One day in July when the were liying on the beach chairs near the pool they see a girl they have never seen before walking over to the mean girls in there school witch they call the ice queens. As she walks over the three girls are watching her. They see her go over to the ice queens and try to be friends but the icequeens are giving her magjor trouble. The three girls look at each other and decide to go help her out. They go over and tell the ice queens to cut her some slack and then she tells the new girl to come hang out with them. Once they all get back to the chairs the trio introduces them selfs and asks what her name is and were she came from. The girl says her name is Aubrey and that she moved from a military camp where her parents worked in the military and since her parents are in the military shes moved 10 times in the last 12 years but her parents promised it would be there last move. Suddenly they hear a horn. It’s Aubreys mom taking her to an interveiw.  Aubrey says she’ll meet them at the pool tommorrow. The next day and the next day they play together at the pool and when Aubreys not there the girls talk about how cool Aubrey is and how there best friend group of three could become a best friend group of four. I havn’t read the whole book but i like the book so far.

My connection in this book is that in the summer i want to hang out with my friends 24/7. Emily, Jenna , and L.J can do that at the pool. They just hang out talk and have a good time.

My connection helps me understand the book better because i know how the girls feel to be with each other all summer.

I read the book Sent by Margaret Peterson Haddix, this is the second book in a 2 book series.  I am half way through the book.  I like the book, but am confused about some things.  I am sure it will become more clear as I get further in the book.  The story is about these kids who are adopted or so they think, but really people took them from the past so they wouldn’t die.  The problem is now time is messed up so they are sending all the adopted people back to there original time and will either have to fix time or dye like they were supposed too. If they choose the first one they can try to fix time then once they do the ruler of the time machine will bring them back to the twenty first century.  During the kids return time to the past, they learn a lot about why they where brought in the future, like that they wouldn’t get murdered by there uncle who wanted to be king and other dangers like that. They must try to fix time without knowing all about what is supposed to happen while saving their friends. That is how far I got in the book.

Some connections I have to the book are that I would be freaked out like they are when they were time traveling! Also if I got stuck in the past until we fixed time I would not know what to do either!!  Some parts of this book just don’t make that much sense so it is sometimes hard to find connections.

The connections help me understand what they are going through during bad times.

The book I am reading   is called Baseball Fever by Joanna Hurwitz and it is about a 9 year boy who is obsessed with baseball and his favorite baseball team is the New York Mets. Ezra Feldman, age 9 is obsessed with baseball  and his dad, a mathematical genius can play a whole chess game in his head but doesn’t get anything about baseball.Ezra’s dad also sometimes grounds him for watching to much baseball.Throughout this story Ezra tries to teach his dad about baseball and teaches the rules of baseball. Will Ezra’s dad finally like baseball?

My connection to this book is a text-to-self connection. My connection is that the New York Mets are my favorite baseball team like Ezra.This is one of the main reason’s I like this book.

My connection helps me understand the book better is by me knowing how Ezra feels about the Mets. For example when the Mets win, Ezra feels happy, or when the Mets lose,Ezra is angry and sad.

I am reading the book Warriors Eclipse by Erin Hunter.

A battle starts when WindClan invades ThunderClan camp. ThunderClan battles WindClan but they are outnumbered and need help. The warriors send Hollypaw to get help from ShadowClan. When Hollypaw reached their camp she saw Blackstar and asked him for help. Blackstar organizes a patrol to go and help ThunderClan. During the battle RiverClan shows up and fights on WindClans’ side. The battle came to a halt when a solar eclipse came and blocked the sun and the cats believe that the sun turned off permanently. After that everybody returns to their camp for rest.

I can make a text to world connection with this book. A solar eclipse happened in that book and in the real world there are sometimes solar eclipses.

This connection helps me understand the book better because knowing that solar eclipses happen in the real world means that the eclipse in that book can really happen it is not fiction.
